Stay fit with baby in Basel
Getting your body back after baby means creating an environment that pulls you forward.
My favorite photo…
Me and Kai doing yoga with Rylla… in child’s pose.
When my son was a baby, I struggled with finding space for my exercise - which was more about finding sanity, than it was about being fit and skinny. I needed a break. Being an expat, feeling alone without family support and just needing a moment to think.
My health meant time for me, time to move and get rid of tension so that I can be a good mom and partner.
Movement is like a mini reset for body and mind.
Having space to reflect, gave me time to discern the changes happening in my life. After all, adding in a new baby can feel overwhelming and amazing at the same time.
Here is what I did… maybe there’s something in this list for you.
Exercise and Wellness at the Fitness Studio
Migros Heuwaage Fitness & Wellness Center
I often went here to walk on the treadmill, sweat in the sauna… cry and then sleep in the quiet room for 30 minutes. It was my sanity 3 days a week.
This center has a daycare for children up to about kindergarten age.
Great to work out at an aerobics class, running machine or lifting weights.
They have a women’s only wellness space where you can sauna, steam, or go to sleep in the quiet room.
Free Fitness in Basel
Go to “Rückbildung” Courses (body coming back to normal after baby)
This is a course that is reimbursed by the health insurance to build up your lady parts and strengthen your core.
Rückbildung, in the context of postnatal care, refers to postnatal exercises for recovery after childbirth.
The exercises were CHALLENGING and very important.
And you could also bring your baby, breastfeed if you have to and enjoy getting out of the house.
Here are some places to go… Mileja formruum and Lisa Burgunder.
River Rhein Walks
Being outside along the water feels amazing. Even if it’s for 15 minutes.
Rhein Walk
Walk along the Rhein at good pace 1-2 times a week with baby in the pram / stroller.
I went with friends and we’d have coffee afterwards.
It also is good for the baby to have fresh air, see new things and sometimes they fall asleep. Heaven.
At Home Video Workouts
Do mini workout videos at home. Some are just 5-10 minutes - do it!!
My favorite home workouts right now for FREE on YouTube.
Silent Disco
Pop on your headphones and dance for 5-10 minutes straight.
Get a free Spotify account and put on some tribal beats or fun playful oldies.
Yoga with Baby
I loved doing yoga with baby, but my son didn’t cooperate. He wanted to breastfeed during this time so yeah. LOL, but other mom’s seemed like they were able to get in some stretching for themselves.
Whatever you choose, don’t worry about finishing it or doing it right. Just do whatever you can.
Sending love and good vibes for growing your baby and allowing yourself to ease into becoming mom.
